Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival 2011 was great. This is my 3rd year attending the festival. My knitting buddies Cheryl, Gabrielle and Rachel went with me and I can say a good time was had by all. The weather was on our side this year. Sunny, 70s with a light breeze. Couldn’t have asked for better weather. And unfortunately, I did not see Hotpants aka Steven, nor did I take photos of beards.

Gabrielle named the moon vine plant she’s holding after the podcaster Guido Stein.

The nice people from the Columbia Sip and Knit group set up a hospitality tent with places to sit and rest our sore feet. And of course knit.

There was a lot of show-and-tell and yarn hugging.

And Gabrielle tried to help wind a skein of yarn that was all tangled. Not actually sure if it got untangled.

One of the highlights for me was turning around and seeing someone wearing a Pinkerton shawl. I very nearly fainted. After I recovered, I chased after this lovely woman who said I could take a picture (which unfortunately turned out blurry). This is the very first “in the wild” sighting of one of my designs. Her shawl is beautiful.

That night we went to the Fiber Crawl after party hosted by podcaster Guido and Storey Publishing. There was a book signing and a really interesting presentation by authors Deb Robson and Carol Ekarius. The Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook looks to be a comprehensive guide to wool and if I ever get into spinning for real, this book will definitely come in handy!

I’m not sure why exactly, but Gabrielle did some impersonations of lice. It was hilarious. We had a good time at the party. The only thing missing was chocolate.

And I bought some yummy yarn.

This weekend some knitting buddies and I are going to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. It should be fun, especially because the Ravelry team will be there! How exciting! If they only knew how much time I waste umm, spend on Ravelry, they would be appalled, or happy, I’m not sure which. Anyway, that’s my plan.

I have my secret Knitty project stuffed in my duffle bag to work on in the car, and some cotton-ease for another test knit of the new “Un-Sadie” dress. You can see it hanging on the wooden divider thing at our craft sale booth. It’s the one with the stipes at the bottom and a crochet flower on the bodice. Those two are my next patterns. Then the dreaded Om symbol. Damn, that thing is confusing the heck out of me. How was I able to knit it TWICE before, and now can’t figure out my own damn chart notes?? Well, my other secret invention (thanks for your help mom) is sort of helping with the chart. Am I cryptic enough for ya? Can’t give that away, either, since it’s still a prototype. A somewhat functioning prototype…
