When DH and I were in Portland, I bought yarn to knit the Jutta Beret for his sister Jutta. It was a really nice, quick project. She said she likes the beret and it fits. *whew!* I ended up using only 2 of the 4 skeins of Frog Tree alpaca chunky I bought for the beret, so I exchanged the yarn for a different color- a lovely light blue. This is dreamy soft yarn. What to make with it? How about a pair of mittens! Here is mitten number 1 in progress.
I started with 2 free patterns and took from each what I like in a mitten. I wasn’t sure if I’d have enough yarn so I provisionally cast on and started knitting directly below the thumb gusset. Once I finish knitting the thumb, I’ll pick up sts for the cuff and work 2×2 rib until I run out of yarn. I may use some leftover yarn from the Jutta Beret in cream and do a little embroidery on the back of the hand.
These are fairly simple, plain mittens but I can already tell they’ll be super warm. That’s what counts!
