Yesterday I went over to Natural Stitches to get some yarn for Kate’s Cardigan that was published in issue #5 of Knitcircus. And guess who I ran into at the yarn store? Lisa, aka Knitsburgh! What a nice surprise!
So we wandered around the store for over an hour trying to decide on yarn for our projects. I kept gravitating towards this lovely alpaca yarn by Alpaca with a Twist called Baby Twist. It comes in giant skeins of 549 yards! It is buttery soft, and from the comments I read on Ravelry, it is really nice to work with. The gauge on the label is 5.5 sts = 1″, but the pattern calls for 5 sts = 1″. Well, my arch rival Mr. Gauge and I never ever agree, no matter what yarn I use for any project, so I’m not worried about it. I can tweek here and there if I need to, especially since the majority of the sweater is in Stockinette stitch.
The color here is kind of hard to see, since I’m terrible with digital photography. You’ll just have to take my word that it’s a beautiful light heathered green. There were some other lovely colors, and it was definitely difficult to decide between them. I also wasn’t sure if I was willing to spend so much on yarn, but I did have a gift card that covered most of my purchase, so I felt like a splurge was in order.
However, I’m a bit afraid I might be allergic to it. Yikes! This seems preposterous, however I did develop an allergy to cats in my adult years, so an allergy to alpaca could also be possible. My eyes were puffy after handling it yesterday. Anyway, I’ll keep the yarn at home a few days before using it to see if I truly am allergic to it.
BTW, I’m participating in the Kate KAL. The knitalong has it’s very own blog Kate Cardigan Knitalong. I wonder if I can get a cute button to put on my sidebar for this KAL?
