So it would appear I’ve become a regular at a coffee joint near DHs office. When I walk up to the counter the barista will say “Short coffee, no room?” Yikes! When did I become Norm?
Well, Friday after ordering my coffee, I sat down to knit. I was there about 30 minutes when a woman and her son (3 years old, maybe?) came in and sat down at a table near me. Here’s how the situation played out.
Mom to boy: Look, she’s knitting!
Me, looking up, acknowledging the comment with a smile.
Boy to mom: *mumble, mumble* she knitting?
Mom to boy: I don’t know what she’s knitting. Why don’t you go over and ask her?
Boy scoots off his chair and scurries over to me, and stands right next to me.
Boy to me: *mumble, mumble* you knitting?
Me to boy: I’m knitting a sweater. Isn’t it a pretty color?
Boy reaches over, touches said sweater, places a hand on my knee, then looks very thoughtful for a moment.
Boy to me: *mumble, mumble* vacuum cleaner!
Mom to me: Did he just say vacuum cleaner? Sorry, he’s obsessed with vacuum cleaners.
Ummm, what? Apparently my lovely blue sweater reminded him of his family’s vacuum cleaner. So my top will forever be known as the “Vacuum Cleaner Top”. How lovely!
