I feel I can use the word maverick to describe Lisa, aka Knitsburgh, and use it correctly. Although Lisa is not an “unbranded range animal”, she certainly is an “independent individual who does not go along with a group”. (Yes, I looked it up. Does Palin own a dictionary, I wonder?) Instead of going along with the crowd and making the standard socks with her sock blank, Lisa surprised us all by designing and knitting a pair of gloves!
And here are her gloves. Notice the slipped stitch pattern she has running up the back of the hand and fingers. I believe she made the fingers first like little tubes, then connected them all on one needle and worked her way down to the cuff. She also cut out a significant portion of pink when she came to it, otherwise the thumbs would have been completely pink. She’ll correct me if I’m wrong.
She also made a ruffled cuff edge. Aren’t these sweet? Isn’t it amazing what these sock blanks can turn into with just a little maverick creativity?
Then, to be even more mavericky (now I’m just making up new ways to use the word maverick), she used her maverick knitting skills to make this adorable Norwegian Sweet Baby Cap with the leftover yarn from the sock blank.
Knitsburgh, a true American knitting maverick. 🙂
Kitty, anyone?
Aw, you are so sweet to write such nice things about me! You just made my day!! (And you much have watched the VP debate last night.) I love that the pics show other knitters at our outdoor knitting at the Fair in the Park. I’m trying to guess who’s who by their shoes and projects. ; )
I just love seeing the outcome of the sock blanks; and Lisa is so clever to do gloves! Just because they say it’s for socks, doesn’t mean it’s written in stone. If Lisa was marketing the blanks they’d be making even more money. I like the slipped stitch detail. So subtle. And again who would think the dye pattern would look like that!

Hi Shrimpy!
