Charlotte P. Swift

July 12, 2008 by handknitsbysusan

Name:  Charlotte P. Swift
DOB:  July 12, 2008
Height:  48.5″
Width:  20.5″
Depth:  22″
Weight:  Don’t know.  But she seems pretty light to me.

I’d like to first thank Beata for posting such a great tutorial on her blog. THANK YOU!

Second, thanks a million to my darling husband who did all the grunt work (sawing, drilling, etc…) You are so sweet! And finally, thanks to Genevieve for loaning me her drill. It worked great!

I started off putting the base together. I’m in the kitchen. Yes, that actually is our floor. We’re renting, otherwise I’d have put in something a little less 70’s…

Here are the yarn holders all lined up, ready to be drilled.

I put together the arm and base, however I did find an error in the tutorial. Instead of 3 pipes cut into 2″ pieces, you need 4 pieces total. But fortunately we had an extra bit of pipe left.

Here’s Markus drilling the yarn holders. He said the PVC drilled just fine. The tricky part was drilling them straight. He drilled one connecting bit so crooked that we had to turn it around and drill it on the other side…

More drilling.

Ta da!

Et voila, je vous presente… Charlotte P. Swift!

I didn’t use any PVC pipe glue on Charlotte because all the pieces seemed to fit snuggly into their connectors. In her tutorial, Beata said that she used some glue on the X join. I’ll try winding a hank of yarn first before cracking open the glue…

I have yet to try Charlotte out because we’re still missing the spacer. But no worries. I’ve only been to one hardware store so far. I need some shoes, so next time I’m at DSW I’ll pop on over to the Lowe’s. I bet they have a spacer.

Wow! It looks great. I’m glad you got it all built. Sorry about the error, by the way. And thanks for finding it! I’ll try to update the tutorial to reflect that.

    Have fun swifting!
