I just sewed a button hole with my sewing machine FREEHAND! I have no button hole maker, or gizmo, or attachment, or foot, etc…, and I really needed a button hole. So I recalled how the machines in my sewing class made them and I tried it. Only the ones in class used an attachment, and I did it freehand. Oh I am so proud! Gee, great, you’re thinking. Well take a look at this: Ta-da!
This is for Carrie’s knitting needle case. Won’t she be surprised when I tell her I made the button hole freehand. (She was also in my sewing class).
So since I’m working on a secret submission for Knitty and have other submission ideas in mind for yarn companies and magazines, I’ve got nothing else interesting to post. I thought I’d just take you through a really tiny tour of my studio, aka “the tv room”. As long as my stuff stays in here, Markus doesn’t mind. Or so he says…
Those knit-savy readers may recognize EZ and Meg on tv. And here’s my old Singer sewing machine.
I got the machine from a yard sale last summer. It didn’t have a pin for the spool of thread on top, so after many experiments, I’ve found that my size 6 knitting needle holds the spool the best.

great job on the button hole! also love your knitting needle/spool holder.
ingenuity is a good thing in sewing.
